Donax trunculus, the abrupt wedge shell or wedge clam, is a bivalve species in the family Donacidae. It is native to the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of western Europe.[1] It is locally known as tellin, tellina, telline or “tenille” in France, tellina in Italy, tellina or coquina in Spain, conquilha or cadelinha in Portugal and Um El-Kholol in Egypt and is consumed as a food in these countries. A very similar shellfish in Australia is locally known as “Pippies”.
