Avlaki, which is situated at the end of a path in the south of the island, is a small pebble beach. You can also find hot springs here. Avlaki was once the harbor of the village of Nikia which lies 450 meters higher above Avlaki, but the place is now uninhabited. Along the way you will pass ruins of ancient churches and you will see the monastery of Ag. Panteleimonas. Avlaki used to act as a part for those waiting for imports to come into Nikia. Because the village of Nikia is located on a mountainous area, years ago, people were not able to drive down the mountain to get food and other household necessities. So, Avlaki was used as a port because of its close proximity, and because many could get to the water relatively easy by animal or foot as opposed to the rest of the island.
The sea at Avlaki is shallow and it is not too difficult to go into the water.
