Then, volcanic activity migrated to the south and vigorously emerged in the Northern Aegean Sea region (Samothraki, Imvros, Limnos, Ag. Eustratios, Lesvos) as well as at the nearby coast of Asia Minor. At the Northern Aegean Sea islands
(Limnos, Ag. Eustratios, Lesvos) severe volcanic activity is observed, between 23.2 and 16.2 Ma; newer products are again found at Lesvos, the southernmost part.
Extensive, large- volume volcanites and a sub-volcanic intrusions emerge in Limnos; these are marginally newer that Samothraki exhibits (21-18.2 Ma).
Agios Eustratios is in essence the remaining quarter of a volcanic structure that was dismantled and eventually sank into the Aegean. Ages observed (23.2-18 Ma) are approximately equal to the ones valid for Samothraki and Lesvos.
Lesvos demonstrates the largest volume of volcanic rocks, occupying two thirds of the island. Volcanism is present between 21.5 and 16.2 Ma. The main volume of products was deposited between 18.5-17 Ma.
