Description

A trail in Cevennes
Holy Lady Faneromeni2

Hiking along this path may begin at its southern extremity, where is the first big right turn on the road to Stavros(is also possible begin the hiking from the most pathways which begin in town mandraki and connect with the road across the heliport). Personally begin the walk from Langadi on the path to the Paliocastro, following on the road to Stavros till the junction between the goat farm, down on the other path till the begin the old roman road and from there upstair until crossing the main road and search the begin of the road toward Faneromeni church

A first stop should be made at the Panayia Faneromeni church, a cruciform domed temple, the oldest church near mandraki and probably the oldest of the island(unfortunately was decided to hold it closed to visitors). The sacred podium contains remnants of artistic murals, probably of the 14th-15th century, while several scattered marble members attest to the existence of an ancient temple in the same area.

Further to the north along a not well-traced path, a small rectangular temple is located, covered by a built arch and a dome. The temple is dedicated to the Presentation of Virgin Mary.

Several other abandoned temples as well as stone buildings probably serving as monk dwellings are located in the surrounding area, within a radius of approximately 100 m.
