Description
This path leads to Dracospilo, the southernmost sea watchtower (‘Friktoria’) of Nisyros, which was part of the defensive system of the island together with Pirgoussa Tower and Kateros Tower, which allow to send light signals between all the corners of the island(the other porbably are the mill in Nikia, Parletia near the actual Filakio, the castle in Emporios and the Partheni mill in Mandraki). A cave remains intact there, under the ravaged watchtower walls; this apparently served as a dwelling for watchmen.
An other way is to take the road or the path to Stavros, drive around the Mount Karavioths and more or less two hundert meters after the path to Siones on the right side will begin the pathway to Argos-Agios Dimhtrios- Dracospilia.
Another route starts shortly upstream of the end of the Agia Irini dirt road. On the right side(where the dirty road turns left) is possible to see a quite large path who leads to Katavros, which is possible to be driven by jeep.
Near the ruins of Agios Dimitrios is also possible to see some ancient ruins of a settlement.
The last section is especially challenging, as it traverses the pointed shattered lava’s of Karaviotis; in essence, there is no traced path there.
