Lower andesitic lava flows of Nisyros (23)

These are observed in Mandraki and mainly at the NW coast, above submarine volcanites. Minor occurrences are located at the foot of the NE and E slopes of the caldera.

These are compact andesitic lava flows, devoid of apparent flow structures, and ash-colored; each stream is 1.5 to 3m thick .

Maximum apparent thickness of the formation reaches 30m; the transition from submarine volcanics to subaerial products is progressive: at some points, hyaloclastites appear inlaid between the first two subaerial lava flows.
